The skeletal remains of two people were found over the weekend by a hiker near a trail in Ventura County, according to multiple reports.
Authorities received a call around 7 p.m. Sunday after the hiker spotted the remains near Sunrise and Autumn Ridge Trails, the Thousand Oaks Acorn reported.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Robert Yoos told the Acorn that the VCSO’s major crimes unit responded to the scene.
Yoos said the cause of death was still under investigation, but the community was not in danger. “There’s nothing to indicate there’s any ongoing threat to the public at this time,” Yoos told the Acorn.
The county’s Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the remains to be those of two adults, the Ventura County Star reported. Their identities have not been released.
