A Victorville man was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and then drove off with her against her will.
Jose Vasquez, 36, was arrested late Sunday night after deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department successfully negotiated his surrender.
According to Sheriff’s Department officials, Vasquez allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at a residence on the 13000 block of Limestone Circle in Victorville, then grabbed an unidentified item and got into his vehicle.
His girlfriend, officials said, tried to grab the item from the passenger side, but Vasquez “pulled her inside the vehicle and drove away against her will.”
Vasquez then fled the scene with his girlfriend in the vehicle while authorities tried unsuccessfully to locate them.
Deputies were eventually able to get in contact with Vasquez and convince him to bring his girlfriend back and surrender.
He drove back to the original scene and was taken into custody without incident, officials said. His girlfriend suffered several serious injuries during the ordeal and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Vasquez has since been booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto where he awaits charges for kidnapping and domestic violence.
Jail records show that his bail has been set at $80,000 and he is due in court on Wednesday.
