A 16-year-old boy from Los Angeles fell some 75 feet to his death during an early-morning sideshow in Northern California over the weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol and multiple media reports.
The Sept. 13 incident occurred in Crockett, an East Bay suburb of San Francisco’s Bay area, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The teen, now identified Jose Cuevas, was a spectator at a side show where more than 100 cars had reportedly taken over the intersection of Pomona and Merchant Streets near Interstate 80.
Cuevas reportedly fell to his death after climbing a concrete safety barrier on the Pomona Street on-ramp to the westbound 80 Freeway near the Carquinez Bridge, according to CHP.
Officers were only alerted to fatal fall after they responded to reports of the side show along with deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department.
The 16-year-old, from L.A.’s Harbor City neighborhood, was declared dead at the scene.
