A Loma Linda man was arrested Saturday after allegedly threatening to shoot someone during an altercation and being found in possession of firearms, high-capacity magazines, and explosive materials, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Deputies from the department’s Central Station responded around 10:35 a.m. on July 26 to the 25300 block of Cole Street following reports of criminal threats involving a firearm. Upon arrival, they identified the suspect as 35-year-old Shane Shaffi of Loma Linda.
Investigators allege that Shaffi threatened to shoot the victim during a verbal confrontation. He was detained at the scene, and deputies learned through a records check that he had multiple firearms registered in his name.
A search warrant was obtained for Shaffi’s residence. During the search, authorities seized several firearms, ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and approximately 1.5 pounds of Tannerite — a commercially available binary explosive used in target shooting. The department’s Arson and Bomb Division took possession of the explosive material.
Shaffi was booked into the Central Detention Center on suspicion of making criminal threats and possession of materials with the intent to manufacture an explosive, according to Deputy Robert Beler.
