The first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is in the books, but people who went this past weekend are probably still paying for their ticket.
More than 60% of concertgoers used an installment plan to break up the cost of the $649 General Admission ticket into separate payments, according to Billboard. To use the service, you pay about $50 upfront to reserve your tickets and then pay it off over time.
The service costs an additional $41.
This doesn’t include the cost of travel, accommodations, food, drinks, merchandise and those famous Coachella looks festival goers often show off.
Over the past decade, the price to attend the Indio, California festival has soared almost 40%. In 2020 a General Admission ticket cost $429, five years earlier, in 2015, it cost $375, according to The Cut.
The media outlet noted that payment plans for the festival have been around for a while. It debuted in 2009 when only 18% of attendees utilized the service.
Weekend 2 of the festival is from April 18 to April 20.
The festival’s headliners are Lady Gaga, Green Day and Post Malone. Other big names hitting the stage include Missy Elliot,t, Benson Boone, T-Pain, Ty Dolla $ign, Travis Scott, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion and more.
