Man found dead near donation bin at Pasadena Goodwill identified by authorities

Authorities have identified the man whose body was discovered wrapped in a tarp outside a Pasadena Goodwill earlier this week.

The man has been identified as 31-year-old Shaves Adams, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Adams, described by officials as a transient man, was found Tuesday morning in or near the donation bin at the Goodwill store on the 300 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. The medical examiner’s report identifies his place of death as “sidewalk.”

Pasadena police responded to the scene around 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a body at the drop-off area. The man was found along with other donated items, and the scene was cordoned off as detectives searched for evidence.

While the cause of death is listed as “deferred,” police said drugs are suspected to have played a role.

A GoFundMe page created by Adams’ loved ones described him as “a devoted father, a cherished son, and a loyal brother.”

“What many assumed was just another nameless headline now has a name… and a family deeply grieving,” the page reads.

The verified GoFundMe campaign is seeking help with funeral and memorial expenses as well as support for Adams’ children.

The investigation into Adams’ death remains ongoing.
