A man was killed early Friday morning in Moreno Valley after being shot in what authorities are investigating as an assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were called to the 13000 block of Day Street at approximately 4:05 a.m. on August 15 after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries.
The suspect had already fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies obtained a description of the vehicle and located it roughly an hour later in Moreno Valley. The male driver, the sole occupant, was detained and taken to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station for questioning.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and no additional details are being released at this time.
