A man who walked away from a Los Angeles community re-entry program earlier this month was apprehended in Las Vegas, authorities announced Friday.
Dijon Barber had originally been received in the Male Community Reentry Program on Mar. 18, 2024, to serve a four-year sentence for first-degree robbery, theft or embezzlement from an elder or dependent adult and grand theft from a person, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation stated.
On April 12, 2025, Barber walked away from the reentry program; officials did not disclose which of the three L.A. County locations he left nor did they say how he escaped, but they did confirm that they were notified Barber, 32, had removed his GPS device around 11:30 a.m. that day.

On Friday, it was announced Barber had been taken into custody without incident in Las Vegas by the North Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Team. He was transported to a local jail and is awaiting transfer back to a CDCR institution, authorities said.
His case is set to be referred to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of escape charges.
Since 1977, 99% of all people who have left an adult institution, camp or in-state contract bed or community rehabilitative program without permission have been apprehended, CDCR said.
