Measurable rain, cold temps bring fall feel to Southern California next week

A big drop in afternoon highs combined with a classic winter-type storm will bring a true fall feel to Southern California next week.

As for Friday, it will be humid with a continued chance of thunderstorms, mostly for our inland mountains and foothills due to moisture from Tropical Cyclone Priscilla. “The main bulk of energy is off through Arizona and New Mexico,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.

Southern California will undergo quite a few changes next week.

“There is the potential for a significant rain event Monday through Wednesday
this upcoming week,” the National Weather Service (NWS) stated in its forecast discussion.

Most of the rain is expected to fall Monday night through Tuesday, with the core of the storm traveling north to south across the region, the NWS said.

Rainfall totals are still unclear, but as of Friday, the NWS said Los Angeles and Ventura counties could see as much as 1 to 2 inches of rain from next week’s storm. The weather system will also bring a big cool-down to the region.

“These temperatures will be nearly 20 degrees cooler by the middle of next week,” Henry said. “It will be a classic winter-type storm.”

With this being potentially the first impactful storm of the season, residents were urged to prepare by allowing for extra travel time, as roadways may be extra slick.

For the weekend, we expect to get mostly clear skies and comfortable temperatures. “Beautiful weekend forecast by the way,” Henry said. “Any weekend plans that you have, you will love.”
