Multiple suspects arrested in $900,000 retail theft bust operation in Southern California

Multiple suspects were arrested in connection with a retail theft operation that caused over $900,000 worth of losses to stores across Southern California.

In September 2025, the California Highway Patrol’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force began investigating after officials from The Home Depot reported suspects who continually targeted their retail stores.

The suspects were believed to be involved in a “sophisticated fraud and theft scheme,” and allegedly damaged merchandise, removed internal components and returned the altered products in exchange for new items, CHP said.

They were linked to hundreds of incidents at retail stores across California, resulting in losses of over $900,000.

CHP, in collaboration with the Sacramento Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, conducted an extensive investigation that identified several people involved in the organized theft ring.

On Nov. 6, CHP announced that search warrants were served at homes and locations across California, from Baldwin Park through Hayward in Alameda County.

During the search, officers discovered around $307,000 worth of suspected stolen merchandise. They also seized $59,000 in cash and 12 firearms. Multiple suspects were taken into custody in connection with the case.

Photos of the bust showed a large amount of stolen goods from home improvement stores including various tools, lawn mowers, power saws, leaf blowers, vacuums and more.

“Organized retail crime impacts not only businesses, but the communities they serve,” said CHP Chief Tyler Eccles. “The success of this investigation highlights the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and our retail partners. Together, we’re committed to holding those who engage in organized theft accountable.”

No further details, including the suspects’ identities, were released as the case remains under investigation.
