Notable philanthropist Wallis Annenberg, president and chair of the Annenberg Foundation, has passed away.
The Los Angeles Times reports she passed away Monday morning at her home in Los Angeles from complications related to lung cancer. She was 86 years old.
The philanthropist is credited with helping to transform the City of Los Angeles with generous donations to various arts, education and animal welfare causes.
Her name is on a number of public spaces around L.A. Among them, the Wallis Annenberg building at the California Science Center at Exposition Park and the upcoming Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing in Agoura Hills.
Annenberg was the heiress to Walter Annenberg’s publishing empire.
She leaves behind four children.
