A Santa Monica Police Department officer was hospitalized Wednesday after a shooting at a popular shopping mall and the gunman is currently at large.
The shooting happened at or around the Santa Monica Place outdoor shopping center, located near the intersection of 4th Street and Colorado Avenue.
An active search is currently underway, and the public is being urged to avoid the area.
Santa Monica police promised to update the public on the status of the search on its official social media channels.
The condition of the injured officer was not immediately disclosed. Police did not say if the officer was struck by gunfire or injured in another way.
