Sears store in Burbank appears to be closing after failed revival

Don’t call it a comeback: Sears in Burbank appears to be on the outs… again.

The one-time mega shopping center brand appears to be closing its store inside the Burbank Town Center, at least according to listings posted on online job boards.

One listing posted on Brassring is looking for a backroom/stockroom employee to help with receiving, backroom organization and order fulfillment at a store that will soon be closing. That store, according to the job listing is Sears in Burbank. The posting was first flagged by YouTuber Chris Cronin.

The potential closure of the Sears store marks the latest failure of the once-mighty brand, which reopened the former anchor store at the Burbank mall in late 2023 to little fanfare.

Reddit users who previously described the store’s reemergence as “sad,” said they were unsurprised the store was set to close.

When the Sears reopened for the third time in Burbank Town Center, shoppers were greeted to empty walkways, sparsely lined shelves and limited products. It seems the store’s revival was short-lived.

There are currently three existing Sears stores in California, including Burbank. One in Whittier is expected to close this summer; another in Concord might remain open a bit longer.

The last Sears in Puerto Rico appears to be closing this summer as well.

An online blog tracking the Sears closures lists two locations in Florida, one in Massachusetts, one in Texas as the only other surviving stores. The commercial property website CoStar says those two Florida locations don’t seem long for this world either and could be redeveloped.

KTLA has reached out to Transformco, the new parent company of Sears, to confirm the store’s closure. We are awaiting confirmation.
