Soccer coach to be charged in missing Southern California boy’s death: report

The soccer coach for a 13-year-old boy found dead in Ventura County is expected to be charged with the boy’s murder, according to TMZ.

The family of Oscar Omar Hernandez confirmed with KTLA that they were headed to downtown Los Angeles on Monday afternoon to attend a news conference scheduled by District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino, 43, is believed to be the last person to see Hernandez alive before he was reported missing by his loved ones on March 30. Last week, Oscar’s body was found in a ditch in a densely wooded area in Oxnard.

Loved ones have repeatedly claimed that Garcia Aquino, the boy’s former soccer coach, was the last person he was with. The boy’s body was found in a wooded area in Ventura County on April 2. Two days later, Garcia Aquino was arrested on an unrelated sexual assault charge.

Hochman’s office announced that it would be holding a 4 p.m. press conference Monday afternoon, and, citing law enforcement sources, TMZ reported Garcia Aquino would be named as the suspect in the boy’s killing.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell and Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna are expected to be in attendance.
