Suspects in Southern California murder investigation found in Arizona: SBSD

A man and a woman have been arrested in Arizona in connection with the deadly shooting of a man in Fontana last week, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Valentin Martinez of Fontana, was found lying in the roadway when deputies arrived at the scene on June 6, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

Martinez had been shot at least once in what authorities described as a murder and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Through investigation, it was determined Jonathan Mota and Karina Rivera were responsible for Martinez’s death,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Mota, 42, and Rivera, 34, both from Fontana, were located in an area outside of Kingman, Arizona, on Monday and arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department.

Mota and Rivera are being held at the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department awaiting extradition back to San Bernardino County.

No further details regarding the shooting or any possible motive were released.
