Anaheim celebrates Halloween with longtime festival, parade this weekend

Volunteers were finishing up preparations over the weekend for the Halloween parade in Anaheim, which will be rolling for its 101st year on Saturday, Oct. 25.

They have been working for several weeks to get the floats — many are recreations from yesteryears and others are new designs — ready for their annual cruise down Center Street Promenade and then turning to finish along Broadway.

The parade also features marching bands, community groups, local dignitaries and more.

Prior to the 7 p.m. parade, the annual Anaheim Fall Festival will be held at Center Greens, the new park built on Broadway next to City Hall.

The festival, which has been around since 1923, starts at 11 a.m. and will have crafts for children, a scavenger hunt, shopping in a local artisan marketplace, entertainment, food vendors and photo opportunities. At noon will be the kids’ costume contest and at 4 p.m. the dog costume contest.

At the Downtown Anaheim Youth Center, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater will perform shows at 1:45 and 3 p.m.

And returning for the first time since 1957 will be a car show on Center Street Promenade from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
