Anaheim Hills briefs: Woman’s Club has busy year, honors shining stars

The Woman’s Club of Orange realized another successful club year of fundraising efforts, resulting in more than $45,000 being distributed among numerous local charities.

Additionally, members also contributed more than $20,000 of in-kind items collected each month such as diapers, school supplies, books for CHOC, gift cards for veterans, and snack items for the Youth Center of Orange summer program.

The nonprofit also awarded $6,500 in scholarships to five students in the Orange Unified School District. Scholarship winners were: Nadia Flores Lopez and Alexis Barron from Orange High and Sharon Cruz Calderon, Minerva Ipatzi and Makayla Roberson from Richland High.

Another highlight was the announcement of Jodi Hess as Clubwoman of the Year. Among her achievements this past year was the launching of a new activity section called Day Trippers, which meets the first Friday of each month to plan fun excursions for members throughout Southern California.

Club members were also recognized for devoting many hours of service throughout this past year and were honored as the club’s Shining Stars for 2024-25 including: Desiree de Liser, who has served as publicity chair and whose exceptional communication skills have kept the Woman’s Club “in the news;” Pietra Gaw, a member since 2011 and a 2017-18 Clubwoman of the Year 2017-2018, who has served as chair of the annual Flower Show fundraiser since that time; and Janet Gugino for supporting fundraising events and most recently volunteering to be an administrative sssistant to Catering chair Terrie Richardson.

Other ‘Shining Stars’ were: Jennifer Lee recognized for her creative designs for club flyers and compiling the club yearbook; Susan Lewis, also a member since 2011, has served as Friendship chair, Fundraising co-chair and Recording Secretary; Mary Majors coordinates kitchen duty reminders; Joan Starr-Panther, chairman of club’s evening group, the WCO Social Club; Kathy Thomas, member since 2011, held many board positions and involved with preserving and showcasing the club’s history at the 100th anniversary of the clubhouse; Debbi Todd, for overseeing the Sweet Shoppe at the club’s boutique and flower shows; and Suzanne Vaugine, a past club president, for delivering needed items to the Friendly Center and working with sponsors for the club’s Flower Show.

Sept. 15 kicks off a new club year with a general luncheon meeting scheduled for noon at the Woman’s Clubhouse in Orange.

Newly elected President Carol Allen leads the meeting that will include entertainment, speakers and club business updates. Other newly elected officers are: Kathleen Stevens, 1st vice president; Monica Aguilar, 2nd vice president, membership; Kathy Thomas, recording secretary; Diane Clemensen, corresponding secretary; Susan Moore, financial secretary; Kathy Host, treasurer; and Kathy Wilhelm, parliamentarian.

Others include: Pat Hamilton, director of house; Rebecca Martinez, program; Herlinda Hicks, fundraising; Marcie Scott, communications co-chair; Dorinda von Tersch, social media; and Terrie Richardson, catering.

Fiesta 2025 in the works at San Antonio church

San Antonio Catholic Church is preparing to host its Fiesta 2025 later this month.

Food booths, game booths, continuous entertainment, Bingo, a silent auction, raffle opportunities and carnival rides are all part of the annual Fiesta. It will be held on the church campus from 5 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Presale ride and food tickets will be available on Sept. 17-19 from the Conference Room near the church office.

Members of the Anaheim Hills Women’s Club are extending an invitation to all women in the community to attend the September luncheon.

The Women’s Club is a social organization that hosts monthly gatherings open to all women in the community interested in fun and friendship.

The next is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Anaheim Hills Golf Course. The talented Elvis Ron, a medley singer and Elvis impersonator, will provide the afternoon entertainment.
