Anaheim jewelry store robbed Tuesday, the second time in a week, police say

An Anaheim jewelry store was hit in a smash-and-grab robbery Tuesday afternoon, July 22, the second time the business has been targeted in just over a week, police said.

Around 3:15 p.m., four masked robbers armed with hammers entered Don Roberto Jewelers on West La Palma Avenue, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Matt Sutter. One suspect pushed a customer aside while entering, causing minor injuries.

The group fled in a green Dodge Charger with an unknown amount of merchandise, Sutter said.

Don Roberto Jewelers was also robbed on Tuesday, July 15, around the same time of day. In that incident, eight suspects took off in two vehicles. One of the cars was later located and pursued by Anaheim police. Four juveniles and one adult bailed from the vehicle in a Buena Park neighborhood and were arrested after hiding in a backyard.

“They didn’t even have a chance to fix the display case that was broken,” Sutter said of the store.

It’s unclear whether the two robberies are connected.

Other jewelry stores in Anaheim have also been targeted recently. On Thursday, July 17, the owner of Al-Amira Jewelry fired a warning shot to scare off roughly 20 suspects attempting to rob the store. Earlier in the month, suspects crashed a car through the storefront of Besan Jewelry, just down the street, and stole about $50,000 in inventory. Two people were arrested shortly after, though police believe as many as 12 suspects were involved.
