ANAHEIM — A possibly armed person suspected of an assault with a deadly weapon against a big rig led police on a pursuit Wednesday night on and off the Riverside (91) Freeway and onto surface streets in the Anaheim area.
The suspect drove on both the eastbound and westbound 91 Freeway, as well as streets, during which they discarded an object from the vehicle, narrowly avoiding several other cars while trying to evade law enforcement.
While pursuing the suspect, officers executed multiple PIT maneuvers and even started to nudge the vehicle when it halted near the intersection of South State College Boulevard and East Westport Drive, just moments before the driver managed to flee.
Officers began chasing again, utilizing PIT maneuver tactics until they successfully subdued the suspect’s vehicle near West Memory Lane and The City Drive South in Orange.
Just after the crash, it appeared officers fired numerous shots towards the suspect’s pickup, ABC7 reported.
One person from the pickup truck appeared to have been taken into custody, but another person from the crash was seen laying on the ground as emergency crews tended to that individual, Fox11 reported.
Anaheim Police confirmed there had been a shooting, but additional details were not immediately available.
