Authorities on Wednesday identified a 16-year-old girl who was killed when the pickup truck she was driving hit a tree near Dana Point Harbor. Five other youths in the truck were injured in the crash.
The driver of the Dodge pickup, 16-year-old Rebecca Cespedes of Dana Point, was found dead at the scene Tuesday, officials said.
The five other juveniles were taken to local hospitals. One girl and two boys were reported in critical condition but are expected to survive, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Gerard McCann said. One girl and one boy sustained minor injuries.
All six youths are students at Dana Hills High School, according to a news release from the department.
The cause of the wreck, which occurred at the intersection of Dana Point Harbor Drive and Island Way, wasn’t immediately known. The OCSD major accident investigating team is investigating.
