Boys water polo: No. 1 Newport Harbor hosting big tournament this week

The Orange County high school boys water polo rankings for Sept. 15, 2025:

1. Newport Harbor 6-0 (1): The Sailors play host this week to the South Coast Tournament, the first major tournament of the season. They opened their renovated pool — named after legendary former coach Bill Barnett — with a 21-1 win against San Marcos last week.

2. JSerra 4-0 (2): Sophomore Lars Knepper tallied four goals and senior goalie Jonas Ransford added 10 saves in a 12-6 win against Buena last week. Recent UCLA commit Connor Colman netted six goals in an 11-10 victory against Oaks Christian.

3. Corona del Mar 8-1 (3): The Sea Kings followed their title at the Santa Barbara tournament by defeating Long Beach Wilson 14-10 in overtime last week.

4. Mater Dei 5-3 (4): Senior center Pete Ryan scored five goals in an 11-7 win against Crean Lutheran last week.

5. Santa Margarita 9-0 (5): The Eagles claimed the Villa Park Classic by defeating Lake Oswego of Oregon 18-6 in the final on Saturday.

6. San Clemente 5-3 (10): The Tritons lost to San Marcos 14-13 in the seventh-place game at the Santa Barbara tournament.

7. Laguna Beach 5-4 (not ranked): Max Sauers netted four goals in a 10-6 in against Beckman at the Santa Barbara tournament.

8. Los Alamitos 5-4 (7): The Griffins fell to Yucaipa 11-8 in the third-place game at the Villa Park Classic.

9. San Juan Hills 6-3 (8): The Stallions edged Foothill 14-13 earlier this month and will soon feature sitout transfer Liam Friedman at center.

10T. Foothill 4-3 (9): The Knights bounced back from a loss to San Juan Hills by defeating Carlsbad 12-7 last week.

10T. Huntington Beach 5-7 (10): The Oilers’ 3-2 run at the Santa Barbara tournament included a 13-12 win against Beckman.
