1. Newport Harbor 19-1 (1): Newport Harbor can join Mater Dei and JSerra this week as the only programs to have defended titles at the prestigious North-South Challenge in the Bay Area. The North-South event runs Friday and Saturday at Sacred Heart Prep and Los Altos. The tournament’s showcase is on Thursday.
Newport Harbor has clinched at least a share of the Sunset League title but its regular season winning streak ended at 51 matches with a 9-7 loss against visiting Cathedral Catholic on Saturday.
2. Corona del Mar 16-6 (2): The Sea Kings are the top seed for the eight-team Memorial Cup at Bellarmine of San Jose on Friday and Saturday. They lost to Newport Harbor 13-7 in a Battle of the Bay match last week.
3. JSerra 14-7 (3): The Lions play at Mater Dei on Wednesday before heading to the North-South Challenge.
4. Santa Margarita 18-2 (4): The Eagles start the week at Beckman on Tuesday and finish at the North-South Challenge.
5. Mater Dei 10-9 (5): The Monarchs moved over .500 with an 11-9 win against Harvard-Westlake last week. They are among the field for the North-South Challenge.
6. Laguna Beach 16-6 (6): The Breakers are the top seed in the Kimbell Division for the Steve Pal tournament and open at San Juan Hills on Friday at 2 p.m.
7. Huntington Beach 13-13 (7): The Oilers play at Los Alamitos on Wednesday in a key Sunset League match that could decide third place.
8. Beckman 15-6 (8): The Patriots made a statement in the South Coast League by defeating San Clemente 15-8 and San Juan Hills 17-14 last week.
9. San Clemente (10-10): The Tritons join Laguna Beach in the Kimbell Division at the Steve Pal tournament.
10. San Juan Hills (13-6): The Stallions knocked off Crean Lutheran last week before capturing the Ocean View tournament.
