The Cypress city manager may soon be out at City Hall.
After what was at least a fourth meeting to evaluate the city manager’s performance in closed session, it was announced Monday night, Aug. 11, that the City Council had directed the city attorney to take action, though what that action will be was not disclosed.
Asked by residents on his way out of the meeting if he was still their city manager, Peter Grant, who has been the city’s top administrator for more than a decade, told them he was, but added, “I don’t think I’ll be here tomorrow.”
The city attorney told residents he could not comment further on the direction the councilmembers gave.
Mayor David Burke and councilmembers Leo Medrano and Kyle Chang were part of the vote Monday night, but officials said Councilmember Bonnie Peat had walked out earlier from the closed session and did not participate and Councilmember Scott Minikus was absent from the meeting.
Peat and Minikus had complained about the special meeting called for July 30 to discuss the city manager’s performance because, they said in social media posts, they had told the mayor they would not be available and the meeting was still scheduled.
Monday’s regularly scheduled council meeting had been canceled on Aug. 7. The special meeting was called on Aug. 8, with only the closed session performance evaluation on the agenda.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting is Aug. 25.
