Final Orange County boys soccer top 10: Mater Dei reigns at No. 1

1. Mater Dei 12-1-3: The Monarchs finished first in the Trinity League with a 6-1-3 record. Their only league loss was to Servite, 2-1. Mater Dei last week beat JSerra, 4-1. Mater Dei is seeded second in the CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs that begin Wednesday Previous ranking: 1

2. Orange Lutheran 10-3-3: The Lancers are the No. 8-seeded team in the CIF-SS Open Division group of eight teams. They tied with JSerra for second place in the Trinity League with a 5-3-2 league record. Previous ranking: 2

3. Servite 10-7-1: The Friars had a tough three-game stretch in Trinity League play to finish the regular season. They lost to JSerra, 3-1; tied St. John Bosco, 2-2; and lost to Orange Lutheran, 2-0, to finish fourth with a 5-4-1 league record. Servite was placed in Division 1 as an at-large team for the playoffs. Previous ranking: 2

4. JSerra 7-4-3: The Lions went 3-1-1 over their final Trinity League games to tie with Orange Lutheran for second place with a 5-3-2 league record. That stretch included wins of 3-1 over Servite and 6-2 over Santa Margarita. JSerra, last season’s CIF-SS Open Division champion, is seeded sixth in this season’s Open Division playoffs. Previous ranking: 4

5. El Toro 18-2-5: The Chargers scoring machine Gianluca D’Amato booted three goals Monday in a surprisingly-one sided 6-0 win over San Clemente to win the South Coast League championship with a 6-1-1 league record. El Toro is in Division 1 for the playoffs. Previous ranking: 5

6. San Clemente 7-5-2: The Tritons finished second in the South Coast League with a 5-2-1 league record. They went 1-0-1 in league games against third-place San Juan Hills, 2-0 in league games against fourth-place Aliso Niguel. The Tritons are in Division 1 for the playoffs. If San Clemente wins its Round 1 home game against Palm Desert on Wednesday, there would be a possible Round 2 game at Servite. Previous ranking: 6

7. Edison 17-1-2: The Chargers went 11-0-1 in the Sunset League, with that tie coming against second-place Newport Harbor, 2-2, on the final day of the regular season. Edison is in Division 1 for the playoffs. Previous ranking: 7

8. Canyon 15-1-3: The Comanches won the Crestview League championship with a 7-0-1 record. Canyon is seeded No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. The Comanches lost to San Juan Hills, 2-0, in their season opener back on Dec. 1, and have not lost since. Previous ranking: 8

9. Valencia 14-1: The Tigers powered their way to the Empire League championship, going 8-0 in league while outsourcing league opponents, 31-6. Valencia is in the elite group of eight teams in the Open Division for the playoffs. Previous ranking: 9

10. Sunny Hills 18-2-2: Lancers finished second to Canyon in the Crestview League. Their only two losses of the season – to Canyon, both games by 1-0 scores. Sunny Hills plays at home against Fountain Valley in the Division 1 Round 1 in the playoffs Wednesday. Previous ranking: 10
