Food truck driver killed in crash with SUV in Santa Ana

The driver of a food truck was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Santa Ana after he tried to make a left turn in front of a sports-utility vehicle going the opposite direction Tuesday night, Oct. 7, authorities said.

The crash happened at Warner Avenue and South Broadway about 10:45 p.m. and the driver, 67-year-old Richardson Ayala of Anaheim, died at the scene, said Officer Natalie Garcia, a police spokeswoman.

Ayala was driving westbound on Warner when he attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Broadway, Garcia said. The food truck was hit by a Chevrolet Trailblazer headed eastbound on Warner.

Ayala was partially ejected through the driver’s window of the food truck, which then fell over on top of him, Garcia said.

Ayala’s wife was also in the food truck, Garcia said. She was taken to a hospital.

The SUV driver was hospitalized with minor injuries, Garcia said.

Police asked anyone with information on the crash to call them at 714-245-8207.
