Football roundup: Kennedy, San Juan Hills, Western get big wins Thursday, Week 10

Kennedy withstood a late rally by Sunny Hills to set up a potential three-way tie for the third automatic qualifying playoff spot from the Lambda League.

The Fighting Irish (5-5, 2-3) beat Sunny Hills 28-25 despite the Lancers (6-4, 2-3) scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter.

League champion Beckman plays Marina on Friday. If Beckman wins, it will set up a three-way tie between Marina, Kennedy and Sunny Hills for the third playoff spot.

Isaac Talamantes ran for 180 yards with two touchdowns for Kennedy. Brandon Hahm ran for 40 yards with a rushing touchdown and punt return for a touchdown.

Sunny Hills returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter.

In other games Thursday:

In the Bravo League:

San Juan Hills 41, Tesoro 7: Timmy Herr threw five of his six touchdown passes to Luke Frith in a rout of Tesoro.

Herr completed 30 of 39 passes for 295 yards with six touchdowns. Frith caught eight passes for 151 yards with five touchdowns for San Juan Hills (8-2, 4-1). Ryan Matheson had a touchdown reception for the Stallions.

San Juan Hills clinched a share of its second consecutive Bravo League championship. The Stallions share the league championship with Corona del Mar and Yorba Linda.

Villa Park 39, Newport Harbor 26: Luvie Clark had two touchdown receptions for Villa Park in the first half.

Villa Park (5-5, 2-3) had a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown. Jake Meer threw three touchdown passes for Newport Harbor (2-8, 0-5) and Glenn Baranoski ran for a touchdown.

In the Delta League:

Western 46, Trabuco Hills 17: Chance Thomas threw five touchdown passes for Western.

Western (6-4, 2-3) scored the first 39 points of the game. Ose Enosegbe had three touchdown receptions for the Pioneers. Maxwell Young and Rufus Dogbah also had touchdown receptions. Skylar Lendsey had a long touchdown run and Western had a kick return for a touchdown.

Tristan Zale threw for 197 yards with a touchdown pass to Micah Bowen for Trabuco Hills (4-6, 1-4). Gavin Mulhall had a touchdown run for the Mustangs.

In the Epsilon League: 

Crean Lutheran 50, Laguna Hills 7: Crean Lutheran completed its undefeated season and clinched its first outright league championship in school-history.

Crean Lutheran (10-0, 5-0) was the Co-Academy League champion in 2015. This is also the first undefeated season in school-history.

Caden Jones threw for 219 yards with four touchdown passes in the first half for Crean Lutheran in a blowout win. Ty Johnson had two touchdown receptions for the Saints. Bryce Coleman and Tiaga Takada added touchdown receptions.

Luca Amaya had two rushing touchdowns and Caleb Bey added one.

In the Foxtrot League:

Aliso Niguel 31, Fountain Valley 10: Carter Vestermark threw three touchdown passes for Aliso Niguel in a home win.

Brady Defrain, Dane Malloy and Hunter Hagins had touchdown receptions for Aliso Niguel (7-3, 3-2). Nick Bisaccia ran for a touchdown and Carson Etnire had an interception. Asher Youderian made two field goals for the Wolverines.

In the Iota League:

Canyon 38, Santa Ana 0: Alexander Lundsberg threw two touchdown passes to Noah McClary for Canyon.

James Munro returned an interception for a touchdown on the game’s opening drive. Chey Patten had two sacks for Canyon (4-6, 2-3) and Troy Branham and Deegan Perry each added one. Hunter Lake had an interception.

Landon Wade and Jakob Mundrinich each had touchdown runs for the Comanches.

In the Kappa League:

St. Margaret’s 7, Westminster 3: Beau Blount threw a touchdown pass to Andrew Toubin for St. Margaret’s in a low-scoring win over Westminster.

Reese Angelos had two interceptions for St. Margaret’s (6-4, 3-2).

Jayden Tan made a field goal for Westminster (3-7, 1-4).

In the Sigma League:

Rancho Alamitos 28, Ocean View 7: Osvaldo Ramos threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in Rancho Alamitos’ win over Ocean View.

The win puts Rancho Alamitos (6-4, 3-2) in second place in the Sigma League standings and gives them the tiebreaker win over Ocean View (7-3, 3-2).

Ramos threw touchdown passes to Joe Vazquez, Jacob Vazquez and Davian Sanchez.

Dean Northam threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Darrin Hernandez for Ocean View on its first offensive play of the game.
