Football roundup: San Clemente, Santa Margarita get big wins in Week 2

San Clemente held off Chaparral late for a 35-34 win Friday at San Clemente High.

Chaparral scored with under two minutes remaining and converted a successful two-point attempt to take the lead, but the play was called back due to a holding penalty. The Pumas subsequently missed the game-tying extra point attempt.

Colin Granite had two rushing touchdowns for San Clemente (2-1) and Shane Kiley had two touchdown receptions. Eiler King three three touchdown passes including the go-ahead touchdown to Jaxson Rex late in the fourth quarter.

In other games Friday:

Santa Margarita 45, Highland 13: Trace Johnson threw two touchdown passes in the first half for Santa Margarita in a rout of Highland.

Grant Mosley and Luke Gazzaniga had touchdown receptions for Santa Margarita (2-1). Jaion Smith ran for 59 yards with two touchdowns. UCLA commit Logan Hirou returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown.

Pacifica 20, Northwood 14: James Anema threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to David Carlsson in the fourth quarter to give Pacifica (2-1) a win over Northwood.

Carlsson also had a 53-yard touchdown reception for the Mariners. Zack Dickison blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in the second quarter. Kole Chapman had an interception for Pacifica.

Dylan D’Epifanio threw two long touchdown passes to Jack Schultz for Northwood (1-2) from 98 and 75 yards out.

Ocean View 28, Buena Park 27 (OT): Trevor Luapo converted a two-point attempt in overtime for Ocean View in a thrilling win over Buena Park.

Luapo ran for 228 yards with three touchdowns for Ocean View (2-1). Dean Northam threw a touchdown pass to Luke Young for the Seahawks.

Trabuco Hills 29, St. Pius X-St. Matthias 20: Tristan Zale threw for 201 yards with three touchdowns for Trabuco Hills (2-0).

Landon Pompey had a touchdown reception and threw a touchdown pass for the Mustangs. Joshua Fitch had 93 yards receiving with a touchdown and Micah Bowen had 10 receptions for 78 yards.

Dana Hills 63, Esperanza 7: Carter Anderson threw for 183 yards with three touchdowns for Dana Hills in a drubbing of Esperanza.

James Leicester had 116 yards receiving with two touchdowns for Dana Hills (3-0). Leicester set the school-record for most career receiving yards. Radley Geiss had two rushing touchdowns and Ryan Blake ran for a score.

San Juan Hills 42, Chino Hills 21: Timmy Herr threw for 302 yards with five touchdowns in San Juan Hills’ home win over Chino Hills.

Luke Frith had 184 yards receiving with three touchdowns for San Juan Hills (3-0). Ryan Matheson and Elijah Ayala also had touchdown receptions.

Jacob Mullen led the defense with 12 tackles and a sack. Dean Kolasinski and Tyler Adams each had interceptions for the Stallions.

JSerra 38, Kamehameha 20: Gino Wang and Will Fredericksen each had two rushing touchdowns for JSerra in a road win over Kamehameha of Hawaii.

Dylan Brown also had a touchdown for JSerra (1-2).

Aliso Niguel 52, Chino 13: Carter Vestermark threw for 271 yards with five touchdowns for Aliso Niguel in a dominant win over Chino.

Dane Malloy and Brody Blasing each had two touchdown receptions for Aliso Niguel (2-0). Nick Bisaccia and Brady Defrain had rushing touchdowns. Makai Patopoff led the defense with a sack and a forced fumble.

Edison 31, Lakewood 0: Sam Thomson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another for Edison in a win over Lakewood.

All three of Thomson’s touchdown passes were to Matthew Auau. Crue Bradshaw made a 31-yard field goal for Edison (2-1) and Jordan Palaez had an interception.

Troy 31, Fullerton 12: Ethan Mundt ran for three touchdowns for Troy in a win over Fullerton.

Noah Torosian, Andrew Green and Paul Ortega each had interceptions for Troy (2-1).

Evan Tellez-Soria had a rushing touchdown for Fullerton (2-1) and Sergio Andrade threw a touchdown pass to Caden Wise.

Canyon 40, Beckman 29: Alexander Lundsberg had four touchdown passes for Canyon in a win over Beckman.

Lundsberg threw two touchdown passes to Kellen Rommelfanger and one each to Dylan Prochnow and Noah McClary. Landon Wade had two rushing touchdowns for Canyon (2-1) and had an interception on defense.

Orange 15, Los Osos 7: Isaac Harrison ran for two touchdowns in Orange’s road win over Los Osos.

Star Thomas completed 17 of 29 passes for 198 yards for Orange (2-1). Malahki Allen led the Panthers in receiving with 65 yards on six receptions.

Cypress 40, Eisenhower 0: Cypress returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a blowout win over Eisenhower.

Matt Rodriguez and Tynoa Allen returned interceptions for touchdowns. Justin Hall threw two touchdown passes and ran for a touchdown for Cypress (3-0).

Laguna Hills 44, Capistrano Valley Christian 30: Laguna Hills overcame a 21-point halftime deficit to beat Capistrano Valley Christian.

Khryztopher Entrala ran for four touchdowns in the second half for Laguna Hills (2-1) and quarterback Jaxson Vanderbeek ran for two touchdowns.

Tesoro 17, La Mirada 5: Tesoro quarterback Selasi Degbor had two rushing touchdowns for the Titans in a win over La Mirada.

Braiden Vaca converted a two-point conversion for Tesoro (2-1) and the Titans’ defense forced a safety.

Costa Mesa 49, Godinez 0: Andrew Waiss threw for 222 yards on just six completions with four touchdowns for Costa Mesa.

Ruben Sanchez had 112 yards receiving with a touchdown and Caden Oliver had two catches for 80 yards with two touchdowns. Rex Tompkins and Ryan Lowry also added touchdown receptions for Costa Mesa (2-1).

Gavin Garza ran for 89 yards with a touchdown and Waiss added a rushing touchdown.

Estancia 42, Katella 0: Kai Bargas threw two touchdown passes for Estancia in a dominant win over Katella.

Bennett Molica caught six passes for 127 yards. Jeff Brown ran for 161 yards with 17 carries. Roy Brown had six tackles for a loss for Estancia (2-0) and Sean Sweeney had an interception.

St. Margaret’s 35, La Salle 27: Sam Orellana had two rushing touchdowns for St. Margaret’s in a come-from-behind win over La Salle of Pasadena.

St. Margaret’s (2-0) trailed by two touchdowns in the first half. Kai Letcher threw a touchdown pass and ran for a touchdown in the second half for the Tartans. Sammy Grant-Lewis threw a touchdown pass to Sam Ludlum.

University 23, Los Amigos 7: University’s defense had three red zone stops in a win over Los Amigos.

Jake Rabold had two touchdown receptions and made three field goals for University (1-1). One of the touchdowns was a 99-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Elmer after a goal line stand. Jacob Najar had 10 tackles for University.

Mytrell Smith threw for over 200 yards for Los Amigos (2-1) and AMarie Maddox had over 130 yards receiving.
