Orange Lutheran running back Sean Morris II and Crean Lutheran wide receiver Ty Johnson are among the transfers eligible to play in football games Friday and Saturday after observing the CIF Southern Section sitout period for transfers.
The Week 6 schedule this week presents the first chance for sitout transfers to play in the Southern Section because the standard sitout period ended on Monday, Sept. 29.
Morris, a senior from Loyola, will join the Lancers (3-2) on Friday as they face Mater Dei (3-1) in teams’ Trinity League opener at Orange Coast College, Orange Lutheran coach Rod Sherman said.
Committed to Northwestern, Morris (5-10, 205) rushed for 1,762 yards last season.
“He will be a focal point of the OLu offense,” the Lancers stated of Morris in a recent press kit.
Mater Dei’s defense could receive a boost from two sitout transfers.
Linebacker Michael Davis (Aquinas) and defensive back Patrick Hall (Crean Lutheran) — both juniors — are expected to join the Monarchs after observing the sitout period.
Mater Dei is ranked No. 1 in Orange County while Orange Lutheran is No. 4.
In the Bravo League on Friday, Corona del Mar (5-0) will be joined by Newport Harbor transfer offensive lineman Will Herrington when it takes on San Juan Hills (4-1), Sea Kings coach Kevin Hettig said.
Johnson, a 6-foort-3 junior, will join Crean Lutheran (5-0) on Saturday as it opens the Epsilon League against Foothill (1-4) at Tustin High, Saints coach Rick Curtis said.
Last season at Lampasas in Texas, Johnson had 68 receptions for 955 yards and 10 TDs.
Crean Lutheran, ranked No. 10 in Orange County, will also debut transfer athlete Damari Hall from Narbonne, Curtis said. Hall is a junior.
