A man targeted his estranged wife’s family, fatally shooting a couple and injuring a 10-year-old girl inside a Baldwin Park home in the early hours of Monday, Nov. 17, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Three victims talked to Baldwin Park police outside the home, telling them that there had been an assault in the home on the 12700 block of Royston Street. Just before 5 a.m., three people with gunshot wounds were inside the home – two people who were declared dead at the scene and a 10-year-old girl, who is in a hospital in critical condition, the sheriff’s department said in a Tuesday statement.
LASD is assisting Baldwin Park police with the investigation of the attack, which happened in a neighborhood east of the 605 Freeway and south of Ramona Boulevard.
The victims who died were identified as husband and wife Qiufu Jiang and Yulan Wang, both 61. The relationship between the victims, the suspect and the suspect’s estranged wife was not immediately available.
The three victims who were outside the home were two men and a boy, all uninjured, sheriffs said.
The suspected shooter was identified as Qihao Jin, 35. Jin was targeting the location of his estranged wife’s family, investigators said. She was not at the location when the shooting occurred.
Jin left Royston Street in a vehicle, going westbound, the LASD said.
Later on Monday, Jin was found dead in his car in Anaheim. Police found him on the 100 block of Vermont Street, dead “from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the sheriff’s department said.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
