Michael Callahan resigns as Aliso Niguel football coach

Michael Callahan has resigned as football coach at Aliso Niguel after six seasons.

Callahan announced his decision to the team’s players Friday.

He graduated from Aliso Niguel in 2005 and played football there.

Callahan said in a statement that he has resigned so that he can commit more time to his family that includes two children.

Aliso Niguel this season finished 8-4 overall and was third in the Foxtrot League with a 3-2 league record.

The Wolverines beat Millikan 7-6 in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs before a 10-7 loss to La Serna in the quarterfinals.

Callahan included this in his statement:

“From day one, my priority has been to make our football program—and our school—better. My goal was always to help develop hardworking, successful, intelligent, and trustworthy young men that Aliso Niguel High School and the community could be proud of.

“Winning games was never the sole focus. I never believed in winning on the field but losing in the community. What mattered most to me was helping you become good students, future employees, future husbands, and one day, great fathers. I’m proud of what we’ve built together. We aren’t just a competitive football team—we are better people because of the work we’ve put in.”
