Mission Viejo kicker Caleb Sylvia has been busy building off his strong season in the fall.

The junior recently won a field goal competition at the Kohl’s National Underclassman Challenge in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Sylvia booted a 65-yard field goal at the event.

The Orange County record for the longest field goal in a game is 60 yards. Former county standouts Hutch Parker of St. Margaret’s and Chris Kluwe reached the feat in 2002 and 1999, respectively.

Last season, Sylvia made 7 of 9 field goals with a long of 49 yards to help Mission Viejo claim the Alpha League title and reach the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. He made 51 of 52 extra points.

Sylvia (5-9, 180) has been kicking for about two years after growing up playing soccer.

“I’m really excited to see where kicking for football might lead,” he said.

Kohl’s ranks Sylvia as California’s top kicking prospect in the class of 2027.

He won a kickoff competition in early December to earn his invitation to the national event in early January.
