Orange County girls basketball Top 25: No. 1 Mater Dei to be tested this week

The Orange County girls basketball rankings as of Tuesday, Dec. 16. The team records are through Monday, Dec. 15.

Notable this week: No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 3 Fairmont Prep are in top high school federation division of the Nike Tournament of Champions this week in Mesa, Ariz. If both teams win their first round games in the Vincent Cannizzaro Division, they would meet in the quarterfinals Friday. … Segerstrom (10-1) breaks into the rankings at No. 25.

ORANGE COUNTY GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 25

1. Mater Dei (7-0): The Monarchs open the Nike TOC against Bartlett of Tennessee (5-4) on Thursday.

2. JSerra (8-2): The Lions begin the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions against Dos Pueblos on Friday. JSerra plays two games on Saturday.

3. Fairmont Prep (4-3): The Huskies open the Nike TOC against Long Island Lutheran of New York (4-0), which was ranked No. 2 in the nation last week by ESPN.

4. Sage Hill (6-4): The Lightning begin the Joe Smith Division — the No. 2 high school federation grouping at the Nike TOC — against Marlborough (5-3) on Thursday. In its first game since the departure of coach Kerwin Walters, Sage Hill beat Santa Margarita 68-39 on Saturday.

5. Santa Margarita (7-3): The Eagles open the Mike Desper Division at the Nike TOC against Xavier College Prep of Arizona (8-3) on Thursday.

6. Villa Park (9-1): The Spartans start the Dan Wiley Division at the Nike TOC against Notre Dame Prep of Arizona (3-8) on Thursday.

8. Beckman (8-2): Aksharaa Prakashchander leads four double-digit scorers with an average of 15 points per game.
