Orange Lutheran’s girls flag football program features arguably the best player in Southern California but the Lancers are far from a one-person team.
They proved that again Saturday to remain undefeated.
Backup quarterback Alyssa McClure and Orange Lutheran’s defense helped produced a pair of victories with All-County QB Makena Cook unavailable.
McClure threw for 164 yards, including touchdowns to Ava Harrison and Happy Dubois, in a 13-12 victory against Roosevelt.
Claire Dahman had an interception to help lead the Lancers’ defense.
Orange Lutheran (12-0), ranked No. 1 in Orange County, opened Saturday by defeating McClatchy of Sacramento 13-0.
McClure, a junior, passed for 160 yards, including touchdowns to Anna Paquette and Josie Anderson.
Capri Cuneo, a sophomore, snagged three interceptions as the Lancers posted their fifth shutout.
In the O.C. Labor Day Classic:
Santa Margarita 13, San Juan Hills 0: The fifth-ranked Eagles posted the shutout to finish 3-0 on Day 1 and reach Monday’s semifinals at University at noon.
Santa Margarita (9-0) also defeated Woodbridge 20-14 and Northwood 25-13.
The Division 1 championship Monday is scheduled for 2 pm. at University.
