Makena Cook’s future is coming into focus with exciting plans.

On Wednesday, the Orange Lutheran junior committed to Georgia for women’s soccer and confirmed her goal to play in the Lancers’ flag football opener at Woodbridge on Aug. 13.

The girls flag football season kicks off Saturday.

Cook, a forward in soccer, suffered a broken leg while practicing soccer in February.

“I am probably four to six weeks out from being 100 percent but going to give it my best (on Aug. 13),” said Cook, a quarterback who was The Register’s Orange County player of the year in flag football last season. “The plan is to play.”

Orange Lutheran flag football coach Kristen Sherman said Tuesday that she expects Cook to play on Aug. 13.

Cook committed to Georgia for soccer but said the Southeastern Conference school has a club flag football team.

“My coaches are in full support of letting me continue to play flag and going after a spot (on) the Olympic team (for women’s flag football),” Cook said.

Cook passed for 6,611 yards and 97 touchdowns last season to lead the Lancers (23-2) to the Division 1 title in the inaugural CIF Southern Section playoffs.
