Orange Lutheran senior Sean Morris II is wasting no time to get acclimated to the challenges of being a student-athlete at Northwestern University.
He will be at Northwestern’s campus in Evanston, Ill., on New Year’s Day.
Morris, a running back who had 444 yards rushing in seven games this season, had offers from many other schools, including Arizona, Cal, Stanford and Washington.
He was impressed by Northwestern head coach David Braun and running backs coach Aristotle Thompson.
“They really brought it home for me,” Morris said. “They’re not only going to help develop me as a player but also as a man.”
Morris, who was at Loyola last school year and at JSerra before that, said he will major in computer science with a minor in business.
It has become more common for high school athletes to graduate early so that they can be on a college campus as soon as possible to be involved in the school’s sports program.
That is in Morris’ plan. But he also needs to get acclimated to Northwestern in another way.
The weather forecast for Wednesday in Evanston called for a high temperature of 30 degrees and a low temperature of 8 degrees.
