Hayden Huerta and Jenna Caldera of Rosary softball each had a hit as Athletics Mercado Hovermale/Tidd edged Hotshots National Galloway of Texas 3-2 in the 16-and-under final at the PGF Nationals in Irvine on Saturday.
Pinch-hitter Teuila Jaelynn Eteaki singled in the winning run in the seventh inning to give the Southern California powerhouse the win in walk-off fashion at Deanna Manning Stadium.
Huerta, a leadoff batter and second baseman, went 1 for 3 with a RBI double that scored Caldera in the third inning.
Caldera, a shortstop, finished 1 for 2 and scored a run.
Huerta and Caldera each earned first-team All-County honors last season as sophomores after helping Rosary climb to No. 1 in Orange County.
Athletics Mercado’s team also included All-County first baseman Bree Carlson of Huntington Beach.
Daniella Boccanfuso (Palos Verdes) allowed one earned run on seven hits and struck out two in a complete game for Athletics Mercado.
In the 18-and-under final, Arizona Rising Appel defeated Lady Dukes Lamar 19-2.
