Rye Goods closes Lido location, announces Costa Mesa opening date

In anticipation of its new (and larger) location coming to Costa Mesa, Rye Goods, acclaimed as one of Orange County’s best bakeries, closed its inaugural Lido location on Sunday, June 1.

“Mixed emotions leaving Lido, but so excited for a bigger space where we can really have some fun,” read an announcement the bakery posted on its social media platform.

Founded by pastry chef Sara Lezama as a garage-operation in 2016, Rye Goods opened its first brick-and-mortar storefront at Lido Marina Village in 2020, with locations to follow in Laguna Beach and Tustin.

Rye Goods will open the new, larger location in Costa Mesa’s Paseo 17 (formerly known as Plaza Sereno), offering more seating and easier access than its previous Lido Island spot. It joins other popular eateries in the development, including Milligram Coffee and Kitchen, Mercado Mesa and “Top Chef” alum chef Jackson Kalb’s Ospi.

Rye Goods is known for its naturally-leavened breads, pastries, deli selections, coffee and natural wines. Lezama’s sourdough, affectionately named “Winona Ryeder” (in keeping with the tradition of naming living sourdough starters), has a dedicated following. She also mills her own flours, while using heritage grains and wild yeast.

Menu highlights at locations include bagels, breakfast items, scones, and a bevy of breads like its rye hearth loaf, rye pretzels, baguettes, country loafs and more.

The Costa Mesa space is slated to open on Friday, June 13.

Find it: 234 E 17th St, Costa Mesa
