A Santa Ana man was behind bars Monday morning, Nov. 10, on suspicion of killing a man in Huntington Beach over the weekend, authorities said.
Police were called to Ash Lane and Mandrell Drive on a report of shots fired just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, said Corbin Carson, a Huntington Beach police spokesperson.
The victim died at a hospital.
Detectives identified Luis Angel Mireles, 28, as a person of interest, Carson said. He was found in Santa Ana about 11:30 p.m. and, based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, was booked on suspicion of murder and a probation violation.
The victim had not been publicly identified by police pending notification of his relatives.
Police did not say whether Mireles and the victim knew each other, or if a motive for the shooting was known.
The shooting was in a residential neighborhood lined with two-story apartment buildings east of Beach Boulevard between Warner and Slater avenues. Detectives did not reveal if the victim was found in a structure or outside.
