Santa Ana State of the City postponed amid safety concerns

The Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce has postponed its 2025 State of the City event, which was scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at Mater Dei High School.

Chamber spokesperson Susan Backer cited “public safety concerns” as the reason for the postponement, though she did not elaborate on the nature of those concerns. When asked, Backer said the chamber had “no further comment regarding specific concerns that led to the postponement of the State of the City event.”

The postponement comes after the most recent City Council meeting drew hundreds of community members to City Hall to press the mayor and police on their response to recent immigration raids and protests in response. Federalized National Guard troops have been stationed at the federal building in the Civic Center since June 11, following a first night of heavy protesting.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will provide updates on rescheduling as soon as they become available,” a news release from the chamber said.

The annual event, which typically features remarks from the mayor and draws business and civic leaders from across the city, was set to highlight Santa Ana’s achievements, community initiatives and upcoming plans, according to the chamber.

A new date and location for the event have not yet been determined, Backer said.
