Spectrum signs 3-year deal to broadcast CIF-SS sports

Spectrum Networks is the new broadcast partner for the CIF Southern Section and will begin showing the football “Game of the Week” this season the CIF-SS office announced Tuesday.

As part of the three-year deal, Spectrum will also show the girls volleyball Division 1 final and four CIF-SS basketball finals (boys and girls Divisions 1 and 2).

Spectrum’s coverage will be available across multiple entities, including Spectrum News 1, Spectrum SportsNet and Spectrum SportsNet LA and Spectrum mobile channels. Roku and Apple TV are among the streaming services that carry the Spectrum coverage.

The NFHS Network continues as a live-streaming partner of the CIF Southern Section.

CIF-SS assistant commissioner Thom Simmons said FanDuel TV, which carried CIF-SS events last school year, was interested in continuing its coverage of the CIF Southern Section. But, Simmons said, the CIF Southern Section needs to avoid relationships with companies involved in gambling enterprises. FanDuel, which took control of Fox Sports West last year when the CIF-SS contract with Fox Sports West was in place, is involved in sports betting.

Spectrum’s 14 weeks of CIF-SS football games coverage begins with the Sierra Canyon vs. Oaks Christian game on Aug. 29, The following Spectrum football games are Chaminade vs. Servite on Sept. 5 and Mater Dei vs. Corona Centennial on Sept. 12. Other games will be announced later.

Simmons said production of football games will continue to be overseen by longtime producer David Otta. Tony Moskal and Cooper Perkins will again team up to provide play-by-play and color commentary as they have when Fan Duel televised high school football locally.
