Tory Burch opens at SCP

Pivoting to women’s fashion, Tory Burch opened Oct. 29 at the Costa Mesa retail center, offering an assortment of ready-to-wear fashion, handbags, shoes and accessories.

The store is located near the Carousel Court, next to Nathan Alan Jewelers.

Burch’s eponymous fashion line, described as “preppy-bohemian” went viral a year after it was founded in 2004 when Oprah Winfrey endorsed the brand on her TV show. The New York-based company has a flagship store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and several outlet shops in the region.

Super Irvine reopens in Irvine

Super Irvine is born again, reopening Friday, Oct. 31 as Super Irvine International Market.

The reimagined Persian supermarket takes the place of Zion Market at Parkview Center. It was “inspired by Europe’s great food halls,” according to Irvine Company, which owns the retail center at 5331 University Drive.

Super Irvine combines international flavors from Asian, Mediterranean, European, and Western countries. It aisles include a full-service deli, butcher shop with halal and kosher options, a juice and coffee bar, plus lots of pantry goods. The store also has Bella’s Bakery, which offers baked treats and catering for special events, and Irvine Cafe, a sit-down Mediterranean restaurant.

The original Super Irvine opened on Culver Drive in 1996, founded by Ali Ariarad who first operated a butcher shop in Orange. The family opened a second location in 2003 in Mission Viejo. The original Super Irvine closed three years ago, reopening this fall completely remodeled and under the leadership of Ariarad and his daughters, Mahta and Ana.

“Food has always brought people closer,” says Ariarad. “Irvine is truly a melting pot of cultures, and Super Irvine is a place where those cultures grow stronger together under one roof.”

Super Irvine is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Urgent need for food

Orange County Rescue Mission is seeking donations of canned and packaged food to help homeless and low-income people relying on its housing and food distribution programs.

“With the ongoing number of people expected to turn to shelters and transitional living communities like OCRM during the holiday season, we must be well-equipped,” Bryan Crain, the rescue mission’s president, said in a statement. “Canned and packaged foods are a lifeline for our residents and others who come to us for food.”

The mission seeks canned tuna, meat, fruit, vegetables, spaghetti or marinara sauce, beans, and soup. Packaged items include peanut butter, rice, cereal, snack bars, pasta and instant noodles.

Donations can be dropped off 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily at Village of Hope, 1 Hope Drive, Tustin, or shipped directly from the online merchant.

The food bank is offering a $5 discount on registration for its 12th Annual Turkey Trot OC 5K, held at 8 a.m. Nov. 27 — Thanksgiving Day — to anyone who donates five or more canned or dry food items. The discount will be offered until Nov. 14.

To receive the discount, donors are asked to take a photo of themselves with their donation in front of the Village of Hope donation warehouse drop-off and email the photo to events@rescuemission.org. OCRM will then email the discount code.
