After more than 13 years serving the South County community at the corner of Golden Lantern and Del Prado, StillWater Spirits and Sounds is calling it quits. The popular speakeasy-themed restaurant and bar will close its doors for good in November.
“Thank you to our community for 13-plus wonderful years,” read the Wednesday announcement posted to the business’ Instagram page. “StillWater will be closing permanently at the end of the month,”
StillWater’s last day of operation will be Sunday, Nov 2.
The news hit patrons hard, who immediately poured into the replies with emotional messages. “I’m heartbroken!!! Some of my favorite nights have been there,” wrote Maritza Bernard. Another patron, Vincent Bryant, lamented, “Dang, y’all were one of the most reliable late night live music joints around, without you, this whole city shuts down at like 8 p.m.”

The venue is also noted for its live music, giving bands the chance to perform in the typically quiet coastal enclave. “We would be nowhere without StillWater and (our) amazing peeps in Dana Point,” replied Yachty By Nature, a local yacht-rock band, to the restaurant’s announcement. “What an honor to rock out for Halloween with you guys. This is not gonna be an easy pill to swallow. You guys have been a legendary live music venue and so many amazing nights with you guys!”
The restaurant has hosted benefits for such foundations as Surfer’s Healing, Surfrider Fountain and the 5th Marine Regiment, as well as hosting a litany of parties and events, including and an annual Halloween party that will still happen at the end of October.
