A bicyclist died after a driver suspected of driving under the influence struck him Wednesday night, Aug. 27, in Santa Ana.
Officers responded just after 11:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of North Grand Avenue and found a 39-year-old cyclist who was lying unresponsive in the road, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Police and the Orange County Fire Authority provided aid to the cyclist, Andrew Rodriguez of Wilmington, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe a vehicle was traveling southbound on Grand past Fairhaven Avenue, when it struck Rodriguez, who was biking across the southbound lanes.
The 26-year-old driver from Santa Ana was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
