An unlicensed teenage driver crashed into a tree and two homes in Huntington Beach late Friday night, July 25, police said.
Officers were called to the 19100 block of Newland Street around 10:30 p.m. for reports of a traffic collision, Huntington Beach Police Department spokesman Corbin Carson said. They arrived to find a car wedged into the corner of a home.
Police determined the car had been heading southbound on Newland Street when the 17-year-old driver lost control and veered off the road, Carson said. While the vehicle was believed to be speeding, the exact speed at the time of the crash is unknown. It is also unclear how the car ended up striking both homes during the crash.

The driver and his passenger, an 18-year-old man, were able to exit the vehicle on their own. Both complained of pain but did not appear seriously injured, police said. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
No one inside the homes was hurt. However, one corner of the first home struck was destroyed. Due to the damage, Huntington Beach Fire Department crews secured both structures, and city building inspectors limited occupancy at one of the homes until power could be restored.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, Carson said. The teen driver was cited for driving without a license and reckless driving and released to a guardian.
