Woman killed in South Gate police shooting after she allegedly shot, injured man in Huntington Beach

About two hours after a man was shot and injured at a Huntington Beach closet business on Monday, police shot and killed the woman suspected of pulling the trigger during a traffic stop in South Gate.

Officers were called to California Closets, 5921 Skylab Road in Huntington Beach, near Springdale Street, about 7 a.m. on a report of shots fired, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Brian Smith said.

A man was found injured and officers helped him before he was taken to UCI Medical Center in unknown condition, Smith said.

The suspect fled following the shooting, but police in South Gate later spotted a vehicle that was believed to be connected to the shooting.

Officers stopped the car in the 8600 block of San Carlos Avenue near Firestone Boulevard, and the woman inside showed a gun, leading police to fire at her, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.

NBC Los Angeles video from above South Gate showed four police vehicles surrounding a dark gray sedan with evidence markers on and around the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Officials have not specified the nature of the relationship between the man and woman.
