The Los Angeles Zoo will once again transform into a luminous wonderland as its annual holiday light display returns next week.
LA Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow opens to the public on Nov. 13, and runs through Jan. 11, zoo officials announced.
The nighttime event takes place on the zoo property throughout the winter holiday season, and organizers say this year’s edition will feature new and expanded themed areas.
New this year is a section devoted to pollinators and their plants which features large bird and insect displays. A glowing lantern section will depict the wildlife of Southeast Asia. And an African landscape installation with sculptural lights will celebrate the continent’s iconic species and ecosystems.
Interactive exhibits and returning fan favorites will round out the experience, officials said.
L.A. Zoo visitors can explore a giant walk-in kaleidoscope, pose for photos with Santa, sip hot cocoa and enjoy seasonal treats. Adults 21 and over will find wine, beer and cocktails available nightly, with bar service expanded Friday through Sunday.
Two themed nights are scheduled this season. A sensory-inclusive evening will be held Dec. 9, with reduced music, smaller crowds and accessibility features such as reentry and sensory bags. Pride Night is set for Jan. 8 and includes a DJ dance party, full bar and inclusive facilities.
The zoo notes that the event won’t take place on most Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
General admission starts at $29 for adults and $19 for children. Zoo members receive a $5 discount. Tickets are now on sale at lazoolights.org.
