A Los Angeles County man’s trip to the fish market ended with him reeling in the biggest catch of them all.
According to the California Lottery, Fernando Diego visited the Fresh Catch Seafood Market in Artesia in December and purchased a SuperLotto Plus ticket. It was an instant winner worth $47 million dollars.
Diego didn’t come forward immediately.
“Winning the California Lottery can be a process. It can take some time to find out who the winner of a prize is,” lottery officials said. “Sometimes, the larger the prize, the longer it takes.”
Diego opted for the lump sum payment, which worked out to $22,56,890 – before federal taxes.
Proceeds from lottery ticket sales in California benefit public education. Of the $9 billion in ticket sales in 2024, more than $2 billion went to public schools, according to the California Lottery.
