Anaheim briefs: AnaCon is back at Anaheim Central Library

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 12, fans of the various worlds of sci-fi and comic books will find plenty to take in at AnaCon, the Anaheim Central Library’s own annual convention.

Don’t miss the epic takeover of comics, Sci-fi, and pop culture at the library. There will be a cosplay contest, workshops, Star Wars and Ghostbusters fan groups and more.

Easter extravaganza in the planning for Anaheim community

A family friendly, fun-filled happening will be presented by Mondragon Family Market and Wings of Kindness next month in celebration of Easter and bringing people together.

There will be free Easter baskets for kids, photos with the Easter Bunny and special appearances by Anaheim Fire, Anaheim Police Association and city of Anaheim Community Services.

The event is free and scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on April 18 at the Mondragon Family Market, 407 E. North St.

Learn more about famed Coach Van

Thanks to the efforts of the Anaheim Historical Society board, there will be a special book talk and signing for “Coach Van: The Life of Clare Van Hoorebeke” by Anaheim High alumni Dennis Bateman.

Coach Van was head coach for the Colonist football team for more than 20 year and is credited with influencing high school football coaching around the region.

The event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on April 25 in the multipurpose room of the Anaheim Central Library, 500 W. Broadway.

City plans a Cinco de Mayo festival

Anaheim Community Services is presenting a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 3.

The free family fun will be held 3 to 9 p.m. at the new Center Greens Park, 305 E. Broadway.  There will be food, music, vendors, local entertainment, community booths and a kids’ zone.

Taste a bit of what Orange has to offer

The Taste of Orange is scheduled for May 4.

The Orange Blossoms Auxiliary of Assistance League of Orange is presenting the annual event from 3 to 7 p.m. at 124 S. Orange St., in Orange.

Taste of Orange will feature samplings of food, beer, and wine from top local restaurants, plus drawings, live entertainment and more. For tickets, visit freshtix.com.

May Day at Founders’ Park

Some fun is scheduled at Founders’ Park with an old-time May Day celebration.

Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to make May baskets, create nature sun prints, take part in a gardening project, play traditional outdoor games and dance around the Maypole.

Visit the historic Woelke-Stoffel House, Mother Colony House and Carnege House.

The May Day event will be 9 a.m. to noon on May 3 at the park at 400 N. West St., under the big tree. For more information, call 714-765-1810.

Special choir performance planned

Anaheim First Presbyterian Church is offering a performance of “Requiem” on April 13.

In response to the recent suffering from the wildfires and those struggling with current national upheaval, plus preparation with Holy Week, the church’s Chancel Choir is offering John Rutter’s “Requiem” during worship at 10:30 a.m. on April 13.

Older adults can access resources, wellness

The city is hosting its spring Active Older Adult Wellness Fair and Craft Boutique soon.

There will be health care, resource information, demonstrations, health screenings and more at the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. fair on May 3 at Downtown Community Center.

Dancing, a bake sale and a craft boutique will also be offered.
