Mission Viejo’s top-ranked football team has added transfer linemen from Kapa’a of Hawaii and Bishop Montgomery, respectively, Diablos coach Chad Johnson confirmed on Monday.
The Diablos (8-1, 2-0), ranked No. 1 in Orange County and atop the Alpha League standings, have been joined by junior Amaziah Siale (6-7, 330) from Kapa’a and freshman Hansen Makaafi (6-0, 250) from Bishop Montgomery, Johnson said.
Both played in Mission Viejo’s 37-20 victory against Edison on Oct. 24, Johnson said.
On the CIF-SS website for transfers, Makaafi is ruled “eligible in all sports all levels.”
Bishop Montgomery encountered a plethora of a problems this fall and canceled its football season in early September after playing one game on the field.
The Southern Section stated that after an investigation it “determined that multiple students transferred to Bishop Montgomery High School to play varsity football for the 2025-26 school year in violation of the CIF bylaws.”
Several Bishop Montgomery students were ruled ineligible “in all sports at Bishop Montgomery High School or any CIF high school until September 5, 2027”, according to the section website.
Makaafi was not listed among the ineligible players for Bishop Montgomery.
He was regarded as one of the top freshmen in Southern California entering high school this fall after playing for the Buckeyes.
Siale is listed by the section as having made a “valid change of residence.”
Siale announced on social media in September that he had been offered by Colorado State.
The pair join a Mission Viejo defensive front led by seniors JD Hill (13 sacks, 98 tackles) and Kane Nolte (11.5 sacks, 77 tackles).
Mission Viejo closes the regular season Thursday against Los Alamitos (8-1, 1-1) at Artesia High in Lakewood.
The Diablos are ranked sixth in CIF-SS Division 1 by HSratings and could potentially face Centennial (8-1) in the playoffs.
