Federal agents seen at Cal State Fullerton; School says no connection to immigration

Panic ensued for some on the campus of Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday as federal agents were spotted, but there is no cause for concern, the university says.

A post to Reddit on Wednesday caused a stir as a student posted a screenshot from an email from a professor. The professor canceled a class due to apparent Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents being seen on campus.

“Class, multiple federal agents from the department of Homeland Security and ICE have been spotted on and around campus. They are said to be in plain clothes and have a K9 unit,” the email reads in part. “Out of an abundance in caution and in solidarity with our immigrant and international students, I am canceling class [Thursday].”

Comments praised the professor and offered resources for migrant students concerned about their rights to be at the university.

The university’s police department later confirmed the existence of agents on campus. However, the department said the agents were there to conduct a training, not to investigate migrant students.

“The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Explosive Detection K9 team, which consisted of one K9 and handler, was on campus today to conduct routine training. They were not here to enforce action or conduct an investigation,” the CSUF Police Department said in a post to X.

“We urge you to contact this office to verify information before taking action based solely upon social media postings,” the department added.

The worry comes after the administration of President Donald Trump has began to cancel student visas across the country. A CSUF official told KTLA on April 6 that four students had their visas revoked at that point.
